Just a sample of ring i create in a Maya using mental ray.
In this first u have to create good light effect for proper shading and then play with mental ray final gather and caustic . I also use HDR to create environment effect

How to rotate cube another step after one step and so on….?

Here is the solution I rotate cube by moving pivot point.
In this tutorial pivot pt. move to one edge to another edge, so we don’t need any extra pivot to rotate cube second time.
